Falanghina Beneventano 2018
Kissed by the hot sun, Campania’s summers might be unbearable if not for the cooling sea breezes and refreshing white wines like this one.
Falanghina is an ancient variety used in what were considered some of the most fashionable wines of Roman times. But it’s also undergoing a bit of a renaissance these days, and it’s not hard to see why when the tangy citrus, tropical pineapple, crunchy white peach, fresh herbs and blossom hit your lips. Crisp and moreish, it makes a fine aperitif or accompaniment to seafood, salads, lemony dishes and anything containing capers or topped with garlic and herb breadcrumbs.
Lapilli, meaning ‘little stones’ in Latin, is the name of the airborne material that flies out during a volcanic eruption. It’s a fitting moniker for a family-run producer who exploded on to the scene in 1996 with their smokin’ hot wines.
