Folie de Chauvin Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2014
Sylvie Cazes is a Bordeaux powerhouse. Not only is she a member of the family that own Chateau Lynch-Bages but she was also the first woman to hold the post of President of the prestigious Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. If that wasn't enough, she also runs a luxury wine tourism agency and one of the region’s oldest and most highly respected restaurants, Le Chapon Fin. So, it's safe to say she knows a thing or two about Bordeaux wine, gastronomy and the finer things in life.
In 2014, as a little side project, Cazes and her three children purchased Château Chauvin – a stunning 15-hectare property near Pomerol in Saint-Émilion. The word “chauvin” means to love your land, so the bottles were given a makeover to feature Cupid, making this an excellent choice for romantic occasions.
This is the very first vintage she produced of the property’s second wine, Folie de Chauvin. Although it comes from the estate’s youngest vines, it’s an incredibly accomplished piece of winemaking. Pure pleasure in a bottle, it’s fresh and round with blackberry, blueberry, plum and cherry fruit, not to mention undertones of truffle, oak, toast and tobacco. Definitely a winery to watch and a classic Right Bank red.£3.2 per 100.00ml
