Sankt Anna Riesling 2017 - Lergenmüller

Sankt Anna Riesling 2017

The Lergenmüller family are an innovative bunch who genuinely look like they’re having fun while they make wine. And that really comes through in this fresh and dry Riesling.

Crunchy green apple and pear combine with white peach, grapefruit, honey, herbs and a pinch of sea salt; the sweetness of the fruit flavour is perfectly balanced by the crisp, and extremely food-friendly, acidity. Consider pairing with Vietnamese or Thai food, pork and apple sauce, hot spice and summer days.

Sankt Anna, or Saint Anna, is made by the smiley and charming Jürgen Lergenmüller using grapes from south-facing terraces in some of the highest vineyards in the Pfalz region. Located above the village of Burrweiler, this mountain is named after the St Anna Chapel at the top – a place of pilgrimage. Napoleon’s officers formed a stronghold up here because of the excellent vantage point and the protection of the forest. Today, the vineyard is owned entirely by the Lergenmüller family, so nobody else can create a wine quite like this one. And they’ve had a while to hone their skills, as they’ve been making wine in this area for 500 years and fifteen generations.
