Baker Street Bacchus 2018

Bacchus, aka Dionysus, is the Greek god of wine and ritual madness, amongst other things. It’s also the name of the grape variety - think England’s answer to Sauvignon Blanc - used in this crisp, aromatic and zesty wine.

London Cru is central London’s first winery. They source grapes from all over Europe and using state-of-the-art equipment, they handcraft wonderful and award-winning wine in a converted gin distillery near Earl’s Court. Each bottling is named after a London street whose first few letters match those of the grape variety used, for example Albemarle Street Albariño and Charlotte Street Chardonnay.

The Baker Street Bacchus was London Cru’s first English wine and they nailed it. Grapes were sourced from Kent and West Sussex. It is brim-full of very English elderflower, freshly mown lawns and Granny Smith apples, not to mention the more exotic peach, nectarine, lime and passionfruit. This wine should be enjoyed with sunshine, fish and chips, freshly shucked oysters, lemon sole, goats’ cheese or a little ritual madness.
