Tasting Notes
96+ points, “The palate is rich and vinous but also pure, straight and fresh, finishing with a tight structure, persistent minerality and a yeasty character.” – Wine Advocate
19 points, “Sort of rich smokiness on the nose. Combination of umami and lychee.” – Jancis Robinson
Established in 1776, Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining independent, family owned, large Champagne houses. By 1876 the house had achieved such a reputation for quality that the second Louis Roederer was asked by Tsar Alexander II to create a new Champagne, Cristal, for the exclusive use of the Russian Tsars. As a result, the first, and perhaps ultimate, Cuvée de Prestige was born. Roederer Cristal is a Pinot Noir-Chardonnay blend that is only produced in the very best vintages with meticulous care taken and painstaking attention to detail applied.
The first vintage to be released under the Vinothèque expression, Cristal Vinothèque 1995 celebrates the astonishing story of a very small number of bottles, with each bottle stored in the Louis Roederer cellars for 20 years in the quest for perfect harmony. The nose of this incredible wine reveals notes of mango, tropical fruit, cocoa beans, white chocolate and smoky cinders, alongside deeper aromas of malt and black truffle. The palate is velvety and ethereal, with the various elements concentrated to the point of retaining only the wine’s essence: a powdery, chalky texture and an elegant, long and refined freshness. The wine’s length and graceful tension provides a sensation of tranquillity and serenity.
Each bottle comes beautifully presented in a decorative box making it the perfect gift for wine connoisseurs.
