Philippe Starck Brut Nature Rosé Champagne 2012
94 points, “Deep, mineral backbone with a smooth resolve. Buoyed with pink fruit.” – James Suckling
This bottle was created by one of the wine world’s most exciting collaborations: Champagne legend and Cristal producer Louis Roederer combining with the famous designer Philippe Starck.
The two have been working together since 2006, and Philippe Starck has compared their partnership as being “like the Queen of England with Johnny Rotten – and I’m the punk.” The charmingly penned label certainly reflects that, with its pared-back feel in direct contrast to Champagne’s usual fancy flair. Always keen to shake things up and break from the norm, creative genius Philippe Starck says: “Elegance is always in the minimal.”
The Brut Nature Rosé is created from a 10-hectare, biodynamically-farmed vineyard in the Premier Cru village of Cumières. Described by Jancis Robinson as “an exceptional vintage in Champagne”, 2012 was hot, but the cool clay in Cumières has maintained a wonderful freshness. No dosage has been added, so that you can enjoy the vintage in all its natural glory. Intense, balanced and packed with fruit, this is a mouthful of crunchy peach, pink grapefruit, red cherry, lemon sorbet, gentian and peppery spice. There’s something about it that will really appeal to the Martini and gin and tonic drinker.£11.33 per 100.00ml
