Mackillop's Choice 19 Year Old Single Cask 1998 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
This 19 Year Old Mackillop’s choice was distilled by the Speyside icon Macallan on 26 February 1998 and filled into a single Bourbon cask, where it remained until it was independently bottled by Iain Mackillop & Co. in September 2017. The cask yielded just 235 bottles of cask-strength, super scarce and highly sought-after Single Malt.
Macallan is famed for its Sherry cask influence, so it’s rare to come across a pure Bourbon barrel expression like this. Rich and deeply nutty – think praline, pecan pie and sugared almonds – with freshly grated orange zest, ginger cake, buttery shortbread and coconut lamington. We don’t know about Mackillop, but this is certainly Harvey Nichols' choice.
Mackillop’s Choice was founded by Angus Dundee in 1996 and named after a clan who were wiped out by the English after the battle of Culloden. Their respected bottlings receive no colouring and no chill filtering, making them a favourite for collectors and connoisseurs.
“Macallan is the daddy, as far as legendary whiskies go,” so says whisky expert Ian Buxton. This Speyside behemoth enjoys huge global demand, perfectly illustrated by a 30-year-old cask breaking auction records when it sold for $375,000 (US) in Hong Kong. Deservedly so, it remains the aficionado’s choice when it comes to Scotch.
