We have long been fans of Mar de Frades Albariño Atlántico, so you can imagine our excitement when the Rías Baixas super producer released the world’s first Champagne method sparkling wine made with 100% Albariño. Summers will never be the same again.

The critics at Wine Enthusiast once said of the still version that: “The wine itself is as catchy as Mar de Frades’ signature blue bottle.” And the same applies to the bone-dry fizz, it’s every bit as striking and oceanic as its bottle suggests. Pour a glass and let waves of seawater, eucalyptus, almond croissant, toast, cream, white peach, apricot, pineapple, melon and lemon zest wash over you. Chill it down and when the blue galleon appears on the thermochromic back label, you’re good to get this party started.

Working with 150 growers in Val do Salnés, winemaker Paula Fandiño has created a wonderfully innovative Albariño. And as you’d expect from the seafood-loving grape of Galicia, this is going to love sushi, sashimi, fish and chips, Baja tacos, tempura, smoked salmon, scallops, oysters and white anchovies. But we also love it with Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian dishes, canapés, sunshine and picnics on the beach.
