After unsuccessfully searching for a perfectly sentimental piece of jewellery for her mother’s 50th birthday, Maya Brenner was inspired to make her own necklace, using the skills she had perfected during nights spent beading and wire-wrapping – a creative escape from her gruelling job as a social worker. Soon strangers and acquaintances were asking who the designer was and Maya Brenner Designs was born. After moving to Los Angeles in 2001, Maya’s collections were picked up by notable retailers including Fred Segal, Liberty London and Neiman Marcus, and she was also appointed Head Designer at accessories label Stella & Dot. Maya’s most popular style to date is the Asymmetrical Letter Necklace, which was made world-famous after Meghan Markle revealed her relationship with Prince Harry by wearing a design with the pair’s initials.
