Rubicon 2016 Gift Tin

2016 was another fabulous vintage for Meerlust in South Africa and this Rubicon comes in a very stylish gift tin.

Don’t just take our word for it, London-based Master of Wine Greg Sherwood describes it as: “Thoroughly honest in style, generous and approachable, this wine is both vibrantly fresh and charmingly drinkable now on release with impressively integrated creamy oak… a wonderfully delicious and gregarious Bordeaux blend expression.”

This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot is hugely dense, pumped full of hedgerow brambles, blackcurrants, black plums, rose petals, liqueur chocolates and cherry pie with whipped vanilla cream. First made in 1980, this vintage demonstrates how Rubicon just seems to get better and better with each passing year. Serve alongside slow-cooked winter fare and let it warm you with all that South African sunshine.

The Myburgh family has been making wine at Meerlust Estate for eight generations stretching back to 1756 - to think that some people call this the New World! Drive up the long, palm tree-lined driveway and you’ll discover the iconic white manor house on top of a granite outcrop, 5km from False Bay. The hot vineyards are cooled by the refreshing ocean breezes, helping the Myburghs to create wines with finesse.
