Rubicon Trilogy Gift Set 3 x 750ml

£130.00

Julius Caesar changed the course of Roman politics when he and his troops crossed the Rubicon in 49BC, and from that there was no turning back. Some two millennia later, Nico Myburgh changed the course of South African wine when, inspired by the wines of Bordeaux, he blended his Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot together, something that had rarely done before that point. Meerlust Rubicon was born and there has been no turning back for South African wine.

This Trilogy Gift Case contains three vintages of Meerlust’s historic flagship wine: 2013, 2014 and the sensational 2015 – all rated as “outstanding” vintages in South Africa by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Each wine will age elegantly for around two decades and they provide a rare opportunity to carry out a vertical tasting through the vintages. Expect hedgerow brambles, blackcurrants, black plums, rose petals, liqueur chocolates, sweet liquorice, antique cigar boxes and cherry pie with whipped vanilla cream.

The Myburgh family has been making wine at Meerlust Estate for eight generations stretching back to 1756. And to think that some people call this the New World! Drive up the long, palm tree-lined driveway and you’ll discover the iconic white manor house atop a granite outcrop 5km from False Bay. The hot vineyards are cooled by the refreshing ocean breezes, helping the Myburghs to create wines with finesse.
