Tasting Notes
94 points, “Transparent and so clear with crushed berries, dark chocolate, walnuts and hazelnuts, as well as subtle wet earth. Medium to full body, beautiful fruit on the centre palate and a fine, long and persistent finish.” – James Suckling
One of Argentina’s benchmark Malbecs, this comes from 90-year-old vines in Luján de Cuyo. Matured in French oak for 12 months, the Mendel Malbec 2018 has a lovely smoked nut and toasted sesame character, which gives it a completely unique personality. Blackberry, black cherry, raspberry and plum jam fruit flavours marry together harmoniously with notes of caramel, liquorice, coffee, peppery spice and dark chocolate. Pair this stunner with nutty dishes or something grilled or roasted.
Having worked for many years at the iconic Château Cheval Blanc in Saint-Émilion, Roberto de la Mota is one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers. In collaboration with the Sielecki family, he is the driving force behind Mendel’s world-class wines. This boutique winery is named after the father of the proprietor, Annabelle Sielecki, and focuses on two terroirs: vineyards planted in Luján de Cuyo in 1928 and a new project of old vines in Altamira.
