Black Barrel Double Cask Blend Rum Miniature 50ml

Mount Gay is made on the island of Barbados and represents one of the most famous rum distilleries in the world. Barbados is often credited for being the first country to make rum and Mount Gay is believed to be the oldest rum brand name. Black Barrel is a small batch, handcrafted blend made of matured double pot still distillates and aged column distillates. In a process called finishing, the blended rum is then matured for a second time in deeply charred ex-Bourbon barrels. This process releases complex notes of spice, toasted wood, sweet caramel, candied fruits and hints of smoke, that are at once balanced and bold.

The distillery was founded on 20th February 1703, over a century before the first Old Fashioned was mixed, and it has been drawing water from the same coral limestone-filtered well to make their rum ever since. Barbadian sugarcane produces some of the world’s richest and most aromatic molasses, which is what gives Mount Gay its gravitas. The rum is filled into white oak Kentucky whiskey barrels and the rest is left to the erratic tropical Caribbean climate, which in one single year could mature a rum for the equivalent of three years or six months, who knows? Maybe that’s why the Barbadians are so relaxed, just enjoy life and let the rum do its own thing.
