Sour and sweet tamarillos – called ‘tree tomatoes’ in New Zealand – are flavour-wise a mash up of tomato, date, kiwi, passion fruit, and maybe just a hint of kumquat. Gently spiced and sweetened with apple and raisins, Newton & Pott’s Tamarillo Chutney conjures up Branston Pickle, HP Sauce and Christmas pudding. An intriguing bittersweet combination that’s magical alongside a fried breakfast, a cheeseboard, or cheese on toast. A particular Harvey Nichols favourite lathered onto a hot and flaky sausage roll.
