Taketsuru 17 Year Old Japanese Pure Malt Whisky
When Jim Murray said “no bar shelf or whisky club should be without one”, he was waxing lyrical about Taketsuru 17 Year Old Pure Malt Whisky. The same probably applies to your drinks cabinet.
The Nikka Whisky Co. was founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who is widely acknowledged as the father of Japanese whisky. Established in 1934, the company has two large distilleries and several blending and bottling plants, and is now part of the Asahi Group. Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Old was named for the founder of the company, Masataka Taketsuru, and is a weighty and intense vatted whisky of incredible depth, elegance and balance. In 2015 it won the World’s Best Blended Malt at the World Whiskies Awards and according to Jim Murray: “The strength of this whisky lies in the way the subtle aroma of peat builds up over time.”
Those aromas mingle with dried fruit (prunes, figs, sultanas), sandalwood, Oaxacan chocolate infused with cinnamon and orange, oak smoked meat and blood orange marmalade. The palate is beautifully silky and multi-layered with a forward fruitiness and a wonderful roundness. An integral part of any serious whisky collection.£34.29 per 100.00ml
