Yoichi Bourbon Wood Finish 2018 Single Malt Japanese Whisky
£225.00
Tasting Notes
A highly collectable release from one of Japan’s rarer distilleries. This lightly peated Yoichi whisky was bottled in 2018 after spending an additional year in first-fill Bourbon casks. Strictly a limited edition, we secured just a handful, so act quickly if you wish to own one. And don’t forget the other finishes in the set, not to mention the partner releases from the stunning Miyagikyo distillery.
Hailing from Japan’s northernmost prefecture, the island of Hokkaido, Yoichi Bourbon Wood Finish is a Single Malt with a mellow peat smoke reminiscent of the warming glow of a bonfire. This flavour flows alongside creamy chocolate orange, roasted chestnuts, honey-drizzled walnuts, Maldon sea salt, ginger biscuits, melon, pear, rolling tobacco and exotic curry spices.
Built in 1934 Yoichi was Nikka’s first distillery. Masataka Taketsuru chose the position in Hokkaido due to its similarities to Scotland. Gently peated, Yoichi displays delicate smoke and sea spray nuances because of its proximity to the sea. These rare releases are a must-have for any serious Japanese whisky aficionado or collector.
