Miyagikyo Rum Wood Finish 2017 Single Malt Japanese Whisky
A highly collectable release from one of Japan’s rarer distilleries. This fruity Miyagikyo whisky was bottled in 2017 after spending an additional year in Rum casks. Strictly a limited edition, we secured just a handful, so act quickly if you wish to own one. And don’t forget the other finishes in the set, not to mention the partner releases from the stunning Yoichi distillery.
Hailing from Japan’s largest island, Honshu, Miyagikyo Rum Wood is Japan meets the Caribbean. If you made honey on a tropical island, the bees buzzing around all the oversized, brightly coloured flowers in the sunshine, this is what it would taste like. On top of that there’s layers of ripe tropical fruit, maple syrup, custard creams, leather and freshly zested oranges and lemons. It’s another release from Nikka that transports you to make-believe paradise.
Nikka’s second distillery, Miyagikyo, was built in Sendai 30 years after their first, Yoichi. The idea was to provide a softer counterpoint to Yoichi’s peat smoke and maritime edge. Enclosed by mountains and surrounded by rivers and forests, Miyagikyo delivers more fruit and Sherry influence. Any rare release from this distillery instantly becomes a must-have for serious Japanese whisky aficionados and collectors.
