For us this is a Whisky of the Year every year. Established in 1934 Nikka Whisky Co. has become a prominent fixture in Japan known for products of outstanding quality and a focused intense flavour. Nikka's Whisky From The Barrel is a combination of more than 100 Japanese single malt and grain whiskies produced at the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries which are blended and then re-casked into a massive variety of barrel types (Bourbon barrels Shery butts refill hogsheads and many more) to create a harmonious resulting spirit with an immense depth of flavour. Displaying floral apricot autumn leaves antique oak tobacco and citrus notes on the nose the palate is big but well-balanced with a depth of spicy oak gingerbread clove-y Christmas spices stewed plums sultanas smoked sea salt chipotle chilli and ripe fruit leading to a long persistent finish. Always a fine choice of gift for discerning whisky drinkers.
