Barbaresco 2013 - Olek Bondonio

Olek Bondonio

Barbaresco 2013

A champion snowboarder in his youth, Olek Bondonio is no typical winemaker. He only began making wine in Piemonte a few years ago, in an old farmhouse which had been in the family for 200 years. When he turned his mind to wine he set off to work in the Langhe area (as well as abroad) before returning home to tend to his family’s “magical patch of dirt”. He bears real attention to details in the vineyard, making sure the vines are tended to the highest standard possible. Consequently, his wines bear testimony to the great terroirs of Piemonte, showing great elegance and poise.

The fruit for this wine comes from plots of low-yielding old vines located in the vineyards Straderi and Roncaglie. It is basket pressed, fermented with wild yeasts, sees a long maceration on the skins and is aged in botti grandi until ready. This Barbaresco is an absolute classic, with a lovely nose of red berries, violet, rose petals and hearty aromas. The palate is elegant, with fine, firm tannins, fresh acidity and great complexity. It will pair very well with truffle dishes, omelette, lamb and veal roast.
