Reserve Bin A Chardonnay 2019 - Penfolds

Reserve Bin A Chardonnay 2019

98 points, “A beautifully detailed Chardonnay, white peach and pink grapefruit plus supple creamy cashew run through the very long palate.” – James Halliday

97 points, “Move over Puligny!” – Andrew Caillard MW

19+ points, “This is one of the most impressive and consistently excellent Chardonnays in the country and 2019 continues this impeccable track record.” – Matthew Jukes

Apples, pears, peaches, shortbread, lemon curd, mandarin, pineapple, melon, vanilla-infused custard and an elegant finish of quartz, sea salt and flint. Although once considered a kind of early release of Yattarna, over the years the two wines have diverged, and now Bin A has developed into a Penfolds rarity: a single-region wine. A shining beacon for the quality of Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, this is a white not to be missed.

Penfolds is certainly Australia’s, and possibly one of the world’s, most iconic wine producers. Established in 1844, it boasts an enviable history that most wineries in the Old World would give their right arm for. Most famous for its flagship wine, Penfolds Grange, which is the very definition of Australian fine wine and the 1955 vintage was even described by Wine Spectator as one of the “Wines of the Century”. Penfolds owe much of their success to Max Schubert, their winemaker who travelled to Europe after World War II and came back with all kinds of secrets. His innovative, often multi-regional, blends have become part of the DNA of Penfolds, and now the wines are the choice of connoisseurs and collectors all over the world.
