Bin 98 Quantum Cabernet Sauvignon Wine of the World 2018

£599.00

98 points, “Full and very impressive. Very Penfolds.” – James Suckling

97+ points, “The wine is made very much like Grange…” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

97 points, “A purposeful bridge between two national styles.” – Decanter

Never bound by regions or specific grape varieties, Penfolds proved with Grange that a multi-regional blend could become one of the most loved and sought-after fine wines on the planet. With the inaugural release of The California Collection, they’ve gone a step further by recreating their classic Australian “House Style” using a combination of grapes from California and their homeland. This ground-breaking red is a new chapter in the Penfolds saga and very much a “Wine of the World”.

Penfolds Bin 98 Quantum Cabernet Sauvignon is Grange for a new generation of global citizens. Crafted using prized Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley (Oakville and Diamond Mountain District AVAs) and pedigreed Shiraz (a component considered for inclusion in Grange) from South Australia, it’s then married together in tanks and barrels shipped from one hemisphere to the other. The result pulses with aromas of blackberry and apple crumble, bouncy blueberry fruit, violets and something that reminds us of Sunday’s roast beef. There’s more of the same on the dark and brooding palate, with the addition of graphite, hazelnut praline, cream, iodine, plums, prunes, black pepper and leather. A truly phenomenal accomplishment and a wine like no other. Due to the high demand and limited availability, Penfolds Bin 98 Quantum Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 will be limited to one per customer.

Penfolds is certainly Australia’s, and possibly one of the world’s, most iconic wine producers. Established in 1844, it boasts an enviable history that most wineries in the Old World would give their right arm for. Most famous for its flagship wine, Penfolds Grange, which is the very definition of Australian fine wine and the 1955 vintage was even described by Wine Spectator as one of the “Wines of the Century”. Penfolds owe much of their success to Max Schubert, their winemaker who travelled to Europe after World War II and came back with all kinds of secrets. His innovative, often multi-regional, blends have become part of the DNA of Penfolds, and now the wines are the choice of connoisseurs and collectors all over the world.
