Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2013
93 points, “The 2013 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a beauty and has a rare level of concentration and depth in the vintage.” – Wine Advocate
Whatever the vintage, the Perrin family’s Château de Beaucastel is always one of the leading lights in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, if not the entire Rhône Valley. That’s why top Rhône wine critic John Livingstone-Learmonth describes this estate as “top class”. In 2013, their wines had a slightly Northern Rhône feel to them, with the Mourvèdre playing a wonderful lead fiddle in this concerto.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2013 ripples with blackberry, raspberry, liqueur-soaked cherries, mulling spices, cigar smoke, peppery juniper, leather and herbes de Provence thrown on to barbeque coals. A couple of years ago Wine Advocate predicted that this would “come together beautifully in bottle and be one of the vintage's strongest efforts.” And it certainly has. Consider serving this alongside roast lamb, barbequed merguez and slow-cooked stews and tagines.£10.4 per 100.00ml
