When a Côtes-du-Rhône climbs to this kind of price, you know there’s more to it than meets the eye. Coudoulet de Beaucastel comes from vineyards just on the other side of the motorway from those used to make Château de Beaucastel’s world-famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault matured in oak for six months, Coudoulet de Beaucastel a riot of raspberries, cherries and wild strawberries, combined with a real Provençal feel of dried herbs, pepper and spiced olives. Serve this up alongside comfort food, Sunday roasts, rustic mountain dishes and herby roasted vegetables.

Whatever the vintage, the Perrin family’s Château de Beaucastel is always one of the leading lights in the entire Rhône Valley. That’s why respected Rhône expert John Livingstone-Learmonth describes this estate as “top class”.
