Domaine de l'Idylle Cuvée l'Orangerie Savoie 2017
Clip into your skis and pop your goggles on as Harvey Nichols is about to take you off-piste. Domaine de l’Idylle, run by Philippe, François and Sylvain Tiollier, is located near the Swiss and Italian borders within the Savoie region of France. Better known for being home to Val d’Isère, Courchevel, Val Thorens and friends, its wines get somewhat unfairly overlooked in favour of winter sports. Wines like this could change that…
Crisper and cleaner than fresh powder, a chilled glass of Cuvée l’Orangerie positively crunches with pear and apple sorbet, lemon juice, orange blossom, the waft of smoke from the fireplace in a distant chalet, and an ever-so-gentle prickle of spritz. Made using the alpine grape variety Jacquère, it’s relatively low alcohol is a pleasure to see in this day and age, and that vibrant acidity is bang on for cutting through alpine fare such as fondue, raclette, tartiflette, diots or farçon. But don’t worry if it’s hard to recreate that après-ski feel at home, it’s just as good with salads, sunshine, seafood and mature cheese. It slips down faster than a novice on icy hardpack.
