Described by Master of Wine and world-renowned critic Jancis Robinson as “thrillingly good” and “really rather satisfying and serious”, Idris Elba’s new Porte Noire Champagne 2010 is our new favourite way to celebrate everything.

Star of The Wire, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and many films in Marvel’s Avengers franchise, Londoner Idris Elba is an actor, an activist, a DJ and now the proud owner of a super-premium wine brand, Porte Noire. The first sparkling wine in the portfolio is the Porte Noire Champagne 2010, a wonderfully mature Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs that has already been deemed “delicious” by GQ Magazine.

This stunning Champagne was crafted in conjunction with Sanger – a prestigious viticultural school in Avize that was instrumental in rebuilding the Champagne region after World War II. Many of Champagne’s greatest winegrowers and winemakers have passed through this school on the Côte des Blancs, but none had a CV quite like Idris Elba’s. Porte Noire Champagne 2010 was harvested just as Idris Elba was stepped onto our screens in DCI John Luther’s trench coat. Created purely from Chardonnay grapes grown on Grand Cru plots, it’s beautifully mature, presenting a beguiling array of flavours, such as Sicilian lemon sorbet, frangipane, walnut baklava, charred orange and freshly baked bread, buttered and seasoned with smoked sea salt and a twist of pepper. Striking an almost Salon-like grandeur in that bottle, it’s perfect for romantic occasions, celebrations, pairing with white fish cooked in butter, or for a quiet night in with an Idris Elba movie.

And don’t be worried about not finishing the bottle immediately, because Jancis Robinson admitted that: “I even finished off the dregs of a bottle that had spent six weeks in my fridge.” This is a Champagne with a long and illustrious future ahead of it.
