Time to rethink what you thought you knew about Vinho Verde. Quinta do Ameal’s Loureiro pushes this category beyond fun holiday plonk into fine wine territory. Abundant floral and fruity aromatics and freshness combine with a surprisingly weighty body and an unrivalled smoothness and softness. This sunshine-loving white is dangerously drinkable and a fabulous match for crunchy summer lunches, fresh fish, sushi, mild curries and simple pasta dishes. 

Quinta do Ameal is one of the best Portuguese wineries you’ve never heard of. This tiny, ancient, organic property near Ponte de Lima is managed by Pedro Araújo and Anselmo Mendes, two of Vinho Verde’s superstars. This historic and jaw-droppingly picturesque winery was recently bought by Esporão, which shows what high esteem it’s held in. Loureiro is fast becoming Portugal’s next ‘big thing’ grape, and nobody makes it quite like Quinta do Ameal.
