Tasting Notes
They say that rules are meant to be broken and this wine is testament to that.
Quinta do Noval is a world-famous Port house that has been in business since 1715. Their Ports are structured and robust, perfect for those who like their postprandial snifter to have a bit more oomph. But here, they’ve delivered a break from the norm – an elegant red wine using a controversial blend of grapes…
The inclusion of Syrah means that Cedro do Noval gets declassified from the Douro Denominação de Origem Controlada (DOC) into Vinho Regional Duriense, much like the Super Tuscans were when they started exploring international grape varieties. But it was oh so worth it. This blend of Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Touriga Franca, Tinta Cão and Donzelhino Tinto is a silky-smooth rhapsody of juicy plums, ripe berries, Terry’s Chocolate Orange and smoky oak. And for a food matching tip, we recommend getting the roasting tin out for this one.
Named after the monumental cedar tree that dominates the terrace at Quinta do Noval, Cedro do Noval also looks set to dominate the landscape of Douro wine for many years to come.
