Tasting Notes
94 points, “The magnificent Vesuvio estate has produced a densely rich Port. Its tannins and big black fruit are just the starting point for a long journey. It is sumptuous and structured at the same time.” – Wine Enthusiast
Following in the footsteps of the sensational 2017 vintage, Quinta do Vesuvio seems to be a Port producer firing on all cylinders. But production was only around 80% of the previous year, so if you want to secure Quinta do Vesuvio 2018, don’t delay.
Located on the south bank and with vineyards rising to 500 metres above sea level, Quinta do Vesuvio benefits from a slightly cooler aspect, giving the wines freshness and finesse. You can expect raspberry, blackberry, crème de cassis, forest fruit jam, chocolate, rolling tobacco, dried rose petals, orange oil and wonderful elegance in this vintage.
The Symington family acquired the historic and picturesque Quinta do Vesuvio 30 years ago. Although they’ve made significant investment in this prestigious estate, things are still done very traditionally with 50 treaders employed to stomp the grapes in granite lagares. Established in 1565 Quinta do Vesuvio boasts some of the finest terroir in Douro and shouldn’t be missed by Port lovers. The Symington family are trusted hands, being not only the world’s leading producer of premium Port, but also the biggest vineyard owner in the Douro Valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site of jaw-dropping beauty.
