With their annual Distillery Special Release, Isle of Raasay push the boundaries of their signature style. This is their first whisky to be finished in Sherry casks.
The Isle of Raasay Distillery Special Release 2022 was initially matured in an ex-rye whiskey cask rumoured to have come from Woodford Reserve. It was then finished in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry quarter casks. The Sherry-soaked wood layers nutmeg, clove, pepper, juicy raisin, dried figs and dark fruits over the roasted almond, hazelnut praline, aromatic peat smoke, sea salt and wildflower flavours. Although distinctly festive, that coastal influence is fresh and intriguing, which is why we can’t keep our hands off it all year round.
The Isle of Raasay can be found to the east of the Isle of Skye, and its modern distillery is impressing the experts. The award-winning author Dave Broom gushed, “This for me is really advanced whisky making, and it’s a completely new way of thinking about Single Malt in Scotland.” So, don’t miss out on the innovative outturn from this compelling producer.
