Rum that rocks…

This massive rum is a collaboration between the German metal band Rammstein and long-time Harvey Nichols’ favourite, 1423. It was crafted using heavy pot still rums from Jamaica and Guyana and old-school column still rum from Trinidad. Maturing in ex-Bourbon barrels for up to 12 years has imparted a woody smokiness. Imagine a Christmas pudding doused in petrol, set on fire and lobbed into a vat of fermenting tropical fruit. And as if that wasn’t enough, it has been filled into 4.5-litre behemoth – that’s more than six times bigger than a normal bottle, so, throw a party, crank up the Rammstein and getting your industrial metal rum on.

Rammstein, meaning ‘ramming stone’, were founded in East Berlin in 1994 and have become one of the biggest international bands the world has ever seen. They’re part of the fierce and dramatic Neue Deutsche Härte genre, making what The New York Times calls “a powerful strain of brutally intense rock”. Frequently courting controversy with their provocative lyrics, videos, pyrotechnics and political views, their rum was never going to be a shrinking violet. So, expect this to hit you like a heavy völkerball.

1423 was formed when a group of friends went to a whisky fair in Denmark, but unexpectedly ended up falling in love with a rum. So infatuated with this spirit, they bought and bottled their own cask of it and the rest, as they say, is history. Their passion has opened doors to some of the rarest rums on Earth and their much-loved Single Barrel Selection (S.B.S) series offers a glimpse into a truly unique universe of unblended rum that is so rarely seen.
