Cradle Valley Pinot Blanc Pinot Gris 2016
The first ever wine to be bottled under the Sussex Protected Designation of Origin. Rathfinny Wine Estate only produced around 6,000 bottles of the 50% Pinot Blanc and 50% Pinot Gris Cradle Valley 2016 blend. However, through our relationship with the estate Harvey Nichols has secured access to a small allocation just for you. Having tasted it we can confirm that it’s exceptional; a view corroborated by highly respected wine critic Hugh Johnson, who on tasting it said: “at last an English white I really want to drink.”
Ringing out with all the citrus the bells of St. Clement’s spoke of, plus crunchy peaches and green apples drizzled with honey, the first flowers and blossom of spring and a pinch of sugar and spice; Cradle Valley is all things nice. Serve with fresh Asian flavours, creamy sauces and summer sunshine.
Rathfinny Wine Estate has around 90 hectares of vines on Sussex’s South Downs between Brighton and Eastbourne. This ambitious new venture – the first vines were planted on the chalk soils behind the Seven Sisters in 2012 – is set to be 140 hectares when at full capacity, making it one of England’s most significant vineyards. Set up by Mark and Sarah Driver – former hedge fund manager and solicitor respectively – and employing a winemaker from Champagne and a vineyard manager from New Zealand, Rathfinny will undoubtedly set the benchmark for English wine. This release is proof of that.
