93 points “There’s a weight of ripe fruit on the nose and palate almost tropical in character. It’s rich and mouthfilling with fresh acidity and a lick of salinity. Pair it with salmon seafood or even cheese soufflé. Fewer than 10 000 bottles made.” – Decanter

The predecessor to Rathfinny’s Blanc de Blancs 2017 was described by wine expert Dr Jamie Goode as “really impressive” and “one of England’s finest”. So this highly anticipated latest release – from the truly exceptional 2017 vintage – looks set to become one of this country’s true icons.

Rathfinny Wine Estate is an audacious and exciting player on the English wine scene. And demand will be huge for this wine because only a limited run of 9 333 bottles were produced. Crafted using pure Chardonnay this is sure to become one of their flagship bottlings having been aged on the lees for an impressive 36 months. The resulting wine has a pillowy texture creamy finish and notes of ripe papaya freshly baked brioche salted butter lemon meringue pie almond croissant spiced apple crumble crunchy white peach zingy grapefruit honey marshmallow and orchard blossom. This is a wine of poise and confidence to be served alongside oysters smoked salmon crab cakes tuna tartare buttered English asparagus goats’ cheese canapés and sumptuous celebrations.

Rathfinny Wine Estate has around 90 hectares of vines on Sussex’s South Downs between Brighton and Eastbourne. This ambitious venture – the first vines were planted on the chalk soils behind the Seven Sisters in 2012 – is set to be 140 hectares when at full capacity making it one of England’s most significant vineyards. Set up by Mark and Sarah Driver – former hedge fund manager and solicitor respectively – and employing a winemaker from Champagne and a vineyard manager from New Zealand Rathfinny will undoubtedly set the benchmark for English Sparkling Wine.
