Tasting Notes
96 points, “Very elegant, complex, and stylish. Honeyed and silky in texture, with toffee, toasted marshmallow, nougat, maple syrup, banana bread, and a hint of toasted coconut. Bright fruit and golden raisin blend in nicely with the layers of sweetness. Impeccable balance and very approachable. Classic Irish whiskey!” – Whisky Advocate
This much-loved and highly decorated 12 Year Old is Redbreast’s signature whiskey. And what’s even better is that Whisky Advocate also highlighted it as a “Value Pick”.
Created at Midleton, this is an Irish classic, matured in a combination of Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks. Like the robin redbreast on the label, you’ll soon have a warm glow in your throat and chest. It displays a combination of butter, festive spices, toasted bread and mixed peel reminiscent of hot cross buns, plus ginger, oak, toasted nuts, marzipan, creamy custard and Sherry. No collection should be without a bottle, it’s clearly one of the finest 12-year-old expressions on the market.
Redbreast is a living legend of the Irish whiskey scene. Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley that’s triple-distilled in a traditional copper pot still, it first appeared in 1912 when Gilbeys began selling a whiskey distilled by Jameson’s that they had matured for 12 years. Although production ceased in 1985, it was soon re-launched due to popular demand and is now better than ever.
