Rémy Martin & Cointreau Sidecar Gift Bag 1400ml
The Sidecar is one those forgotten and underrated classics. This ever-stylish cocktail is a combination of the finest Cognac, orange liqueur, lemon juice and the gentlest touch of a sweetener for balance – consider it a brandy Daiquiri if you will. It was thought to have been invented in Harry’s New York Bar in Paris during World War I. From there, it has become popular throughout the world, but without ever reaching the kind of heights that might make it passé or overdone. As a result, it feels timeless, like a little black dress or a well-tailored tuxedo.
This sleek Rémy Martin gift bag contains a bottle of Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal Cognac and a beautiful limited-edition Cointreau designed by the famous interior designer Vincent Darré. So, all you’ll need to whip up a Sidecar is some lemon, some ice, sugar syrup and a cocktail shaker. We’ve also thrown in a few additional goodies, including a pair of Rémy Martin glasses, an apron, an ice cube mould and an ice cube stamp, so you can print the Rémy Martin centaur logo on to your ice cubes.
Now, when it comes to making a Sidecar, there’s some debate between the French and the British regarding how much Cognac to use. The former prefer roughly equal measures of the three main ingredients and the latter prefer a higher brandy content. We’ll let you decide, but we make ours somewhere in between, by shaking 45ml of Rémy Martin 1738 Cognac, 30ml of Cointreau, 30ml of lemon juice, a splash of sugar syrup and ice, then straining into a chilled glass. Garnish with a sugared rim or a twist of lemon peel, depending on your preference for sweet or sour.
