Oak Ridge Vineyard Orange Gewürztraminer 2017
Savage Grace have produced one of only a handful of orange wines coming out of Washington State at the moment. For those not familiar with orange wines, these are white wines where the juice has been left in contact with the skins for longer, giving it time to extract a little more body, tannin and flavour and adopt a light amber colour.
One of the hottest new trends, these bone-dry (and often quite herbal yet spicy wines) are so exciting, they’ve now formed their own category. Rich, bright and all up in your business, Savage Grace’s Oak Ridge Vineyard Orange Gewürztraminer comes from organic vines in the Columbia River Gorge and explodes with lychee, rose petal, tangerine peel, exotic spices and pleasantly bitter herbs. It makes a perfect partner to katsu, massaman, panang or rendang curry.
Washington State’s Savage Grace Wines was established in 2011 by winemaker Michael Savage and his wife Grace Hearn but the name is far more than just a clever play on their names. It reflects the vines’ struggle to survive here in this wild northwest corner of America and the elegance that Michael manages to tease out of them. His aim is to craft wines in an Old World style with lower alcohol using sustainable farming methods. These boutique wines are super rare, with only 100-or-so cases of some of them being created. Savage Grace also uses natural yeasts and very little sulphur, producing wines that are vegan-friendly.£2.8 per 100.00ml
