Beaune Les Bons Feuvres 2016 - SEBASTIEN MAGNIEN

Beaune Les Bons Feuvres 2016

Sébastien Magnien comes from Meloisey in Hautes Côtes de Beaune but has moved his cellar to the middle of Meursault to get amidst the cut and thrust of the industry – firmly where he deserves to be in our opinion. Because of where the wines come from, his reds offer excellent value when compared to wines from the Côte de Nuits. And although highly praised in France, he flies under the radar in the UK. But he is very much a winemaker to watch.

The little-known terroir of Les Bons Feuvres can be found in Beaune on the D974 that leads to Pommard. The name alludes to fun and a job well done, both of which are accurate descriptions for this wine, but we much prefer what might well be a glitch in the Google translation, which sums this plot up as: “Goodies”. And it is packed with goodies; wild strawberries, red cherry, cranberry, oak and a pleasing note of smoked ham. As a result, consider pairing with smoked meats or something like gnocchi with a smoked tomato sauce.
