The Secret Garden Distillery

In 2012, the husband-and-wife team of Hamish and Liberty Martin – an ex-wine merchant with a first-class diploma in Herbology and a trained beekeeper with a penchant for antiques – bought a derelict plot of land at the foot of the Pentland Hills on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Over several years they transformed that wasteland into The Secret Herb Garden, which is now home to over 600 naturally and sustainably grown and tended to plants. Although it was never their intention, in 2017 they launched an acclaimed range of 100% natural flavour gins, which rapidly became bestsellers at Harvey Nichols. The Secret Garden Distillery, formerly known as The Old Curiosity Distillery, creates spirits that are deeply rooted in nature. All the botanicals used, from the juniper to the signature flowers, are hand-tended, handpicked, air-dried and lovingly infused. There are no added sugars, artificial colourings, flavourings or additives, this is gin as nature intended.
