Black Venus Rice 500g

Italy is the largest European rice producer. Since the 15th Century, cultivated rice production has centred on Piedmont’s fertile Po Valley, watered by the Cavour Canal. Black Venus Rice (Venere Nero) is a new, nutty and aromatic variety, which adds a dramatic touch to any dish.

Michele Perinotti is a passionate producer and connoisseur. He loves his rice, promotes indigenous rice varieties from poorer countries and has worked with farming communities in Madagascar to develop efficient production methods with low environmental impact. Michele pursues the best possible quality in his own production, which has been recognized by top chefs such as Heston Blumenthal.

Michele's family farm, which goes back five generations, grows arborio and carnaroli rice, while the wild red and black venus varieties are selected from neighbouring Risaie Vercellesi, the paddy fields of Vercelli in Piedmont. These fields are the natural habitat for herons. The brand used to be called Gli Aironi, taking the name from the majestic bird, until it was taken under the wing of the Seggiano group.
