Tasting Notes
95 points, “Tightly wound, savoury style with lifted chamomile and nutty, funky bacon fat and struck match. An exacting streak of acidity makes for great length. Fermented and aged for six months in French puncheons.” – Decanter Magazine
The KBS Vineyard (named after the founder Kenneth Brian Stonier) produces Stonier’s flagship Chardonnay, with notes of sweet lemon, smoked paprika, chalk, buttery brioche, white peach and a whip of sea spray. This is one of the most intriguing Aussie Chardonnays we’ve come across in many years.
With its cool climate and elegance, Mornington Peninsula feels like Australia’s answer to Burgundy. Here, close to the sea and with old vines aplenty, the pioneering Stonier create what Decanter Magazine has described as “ultra-charming small-batch wines to seek out”. Established in 1978 and rated as a five-star winery by James Halliday’s Wine Companion, Stonier always has one eye on sustainability and the other firmly on premium quality.
