Liqueur de Violettes
Awarded 94 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, Tempus Fugit Spirits’ Liqueur de Violettes is crafted to a mid-19th-Century French recipe in micro batches. Precious French violets are harvested from the very same fields in the Côte d’Azur that supply most of the world’s finest perfume houses. Created in liqueur style rather than a sweeter crème style, this prevents the sugar dulling the aromatics.
Violet liqueurs were hugely popular in the days of The Stock Club in New York and Harry Craddock at The Savoy, and they are now undergoing a huge resurgence. Tempus Fugit Spirits’ Liqueur de Violettes makes an Aviation that will really take off and can be used to add floral notes to a Daiquiri or Martini. But our personal favourite is to add a drop into a flute and top it up with Champagne, creating a romantic twist on the Kir Royale.
Tempus Fugit means “time flies”, and it certainly does when you’re drinking cocktails made with these beautifully packaged Swiss spirits. Tempus Fugit Spirits are dedicated to the art of the well-made cocktail. While most of us are prone to focus on the quality of the “main” spirit in a cocktail, such as gin, vodka, whisky, rum, etc., Tempus Fugit dedicate themselves to the rarer spirits or “modifiers” from the pre-Prohibition era, and these are the ones that can really make or break the classic cocktails. Many lesser producers often use unnatural colouring, industrial methods and artificial flavours knowing full well that most people won’t drink them neat and realise that they’re awful. But Tempus Fugit aren’t like that, they seek out long lost, centuries-old recipes and rare, high-quality ingredients, and lovingly combine them in a very old-school, small-batch production, just as it would have been done back in the day. This is the spirit of history.£4.21 per 100.00ml
