Tasting Notes
On a night like this, you’re going to want to serve Kylie Minogue Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2020.
Part of the Collection Range, her flagship single-estate wines, Kylie Minogue’s vegan-friendly Pinot Noir is crafted by De Bortoli, one of Australia’s most famous winemaking families. The grapes are picked by hand from premium cool-climate vineyards and the wine is matured in French oak for nine months. Kylie’s parents live in Victoria and her father particularly loves Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, so she wanted to create a special wine for him. We’re so glad she decided to share it with us though, as this “clean, svelte and smooth” red has already received a massive score of 92 points from Decanter Magazine’s Andrew Jefford, who also described it as “seamless”. Bright scarlet in colour, it entices with cherry, blackcurrant, redcurrant, blackberry and earthy notes of tobacco, truffle, wood, forest and sweet spices. A deeply personal wine for Kylie has become a big favourite for us.
Having sold over 80 million records and topped the UK album chart in five consecutive decades, the “Princess of Pop”, Kylie Minogue OBE, has now become the princess of popping corks. Her eponymous wine range burst onto the scene in 2020 and sold more than a million bottles within its first year. The multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, actor, philanthropist, breast cancer awareness campaigner, style icon and now Creative Director of a highly successful premium wine brand, has been “unbelievably humbled and thrilled by the global response to Kylie Minogue Wines.” When we met the fabulous London resident, she admitted that she has always loved wine, fondly recalling cooking and chatting with her friends and family over a bottle or two. She therefore has some pretty strong views on the subject, which was why when approached by Benchmark Drinks about creating the Kylie range, she told them these would not be “style over substance” and that if they were “just plonking my name on it, I’m not interested.” She definitely got her way. Later, she told us that she remembered ascending the escalators to the Harvey Nichols Foodmarket and Wine Shop at our flagship Knightsbridge store in the 1990s, but would never have dreamt that over twenty years later her products would grace those shelves. Now, that’s exactly where they are. I should be so lucky.
