Harvey Nichols is proud to be one of the very first stockists of this rare rosé. The pink eye on the label is a nod (and a wink) to Oeil de Perdrix - a style of dry rosé wine thought to have originated in Champagne during the Middle Ages, famed for being the colour of a partridge’s eye.
The English wine scene is exploding at the moment. However, few are as cool or highly sought-after as Tillingham. Their Rosé 2018 is made from a blend of Rondo, Orion and Madeleine Angevine grapes sourced from an organic vineyard just outside Bradford-upon-Avon, near Bristol. The wine is crafted in Sussex and bottled without filtration or fining, making it vegan friendly. Upon pulling the cork, you’ll discover an intriguing blend of strawberry jam, pink grapefruit, Werther’s Originals, peach, orange peel, cut grass and something reminiscent of a stick of rock by the seaside. It’s so interesting, there’s something new to discover in each mouthful and at 10.5% you can drink this all day long.
Tillingham is a biodynamic English winemaker located in Peasmarsh, East Sussex. The slopes of the farm lead down to the Tillingham River, which wends its merry way towards Rye. Headed up by Ben Walgate, who made a name for himself at the highly respected Gusbourne Estate, Tillingham make English wine from their vineyards and carefully sourced parcels, and cider (sometimes under the Starvecrow brand) from their neighbour Steve’s orchard. Inspired by a tour of Burgundy, Ben introduced biodynamic farming methods, organic compost and free-roaming sheep to help improve the microbial life of the soil and the biodiversity of the area. He then met the legendary John Wurdeman of the Georgian winery Pheasant’s Tears, which triggered him to introduce qvevri (egg-shaped earthenware vessels that look a bit like amphora without handles) that he uses in some of his more recent wines and ciders.£3.2 per 100.00ml
