Awarded 93 points by the Master of Wine Tim Atkin, Viña Pedrosa Finca La Navilla Ribera del Duero Reserva 2018 is made from pure Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and matured in French oak for twenty months. It was bottled in 2020 and left to rest for over a year before release. The vintage only yielded around 30,300 bottles of this stylish red, of which very few made it to these shores. Finca La Navilla is an exceptional single vineyard located at 844 metres above sea level. This height allows Hermanos Pérez Pascuas to create a big red with enviable freshness. Pouring a garnet colour with flashes of cherry, this Ribera del Duero Reserva displays a perfectly balanced mix of fruit, spice and smoke, plus the kind of fine tannins and slightly rustic charm that are just screaming out for red meat.
Viña Pedrosa is created by the ever-reliable Pérez Pascuas family. In the 1980s, brothers Benjamín, Manuel and Adolfo decided to create one of Spain’s greatest wines using the old vines that their father, Mauro Pérez, had planted. Their vineyards are at a slightly higher altitude than those of their neighbours, which results in slower ripening, and as a result, immense complexity. Now the third generation are at the helm and the standard of their Ribera del Duero wines has never been higher.
