El Olivar Single Vineyard Syrah 2017 - Viu Manent

Viu Manent

El Olivar Single Vineyard Syrah 2017

Awarded 93 points by James Suckling, 92 points by Tim Atkin MW and a Gold Medal at the Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards, this is a must-try for lovers of Shiraz.

Viu Manent pick the grapes for this wine by hand from the best vines in their El Olivar Vineyard, near the town of Peralillo. Matured in a combination of French oak and concrete eggs, it’s a lovely combination of old-school vibes and bright New World fruit. The El Olivar Single Vineyard Syrah presents blackberries, black cherries, prunes, violet, smoked meat, toast, peppery spices, graphite and strawberries and cream topped with a few mint leaves. Pair this silky red with rich and smoky dishes, barbeques, chargrilled mushrooms, roasted aubergines or truffles.

“Viu Manent makes excellent wines across the board” according to the respected American wine critic, James Suckling. Founded in 1935, the winery is still owned and run by the Viu family. Their ancestors came to Chile from Catalonia and today their extensive vineyards spread across 254 hectares of the Colchagua Valley, which can be visited on antique horse-drawn carriage tours. In fact, Decanter Magazine ranks Viu Manent in the Top 10 wineries to visit for foodies, presumably in no small part because of their stunningly food-friendly wines.
