Vintage Port 1994 Wooden Gift Box
96 points, “In a Port tasting, tasting Graham’s is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many Ports, the opaque purple-coloured 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality… As always, this is a showy, flamboyant Port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham’s.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
95+ points, “Vinous, extremely balanced and offering scents of red liquorice and raspberry fruit with a mocha note. The 1994 offers focused and concentrated fruit that stands out in a crowd. The acidity and ripe, round tannins deliver deft balance. This is going to reward patience and although easy to sip now, Graham’s ’94 will evolve at a high level for another five decades and should be permitted to improve in bottle. It’s a remarkable, classic Vintage Port.” – For the Love of Port
The 1994 is one of the most classic expressions of Graham’s Vintage Port of the 20th Century, and maybe the finest of the post-World War II era. Because it was loved so much by wine critics, experts, writers and drinkers all around the globe, the Symington family has decided to issue a limited re-release in Autumn 2021, complete with a stylish wooden gift box and 25 years of bottle age.
The grapes come from Quinta dos Malvedos in Cima Corgo and Quinta das Lages in Rio Torto Valley. Belying its 27 years of age, Graham’s Vintage Port 1994 is remarkably dark and intense, suggesting a long life ahead of it. Expect an experience of silky opulence that oozes dark fruit, raisin-packed fruitcake, eucalyptus, chocolate, mocha, black cherry, crème de cassis and caramel. The experts at Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate describe it as “sexy and intriguing”, and it’s hard to argue with that assessment. A fine choice for festive fare and cheeseboards, or as a gift for marking a special 1994 anniversary.
Established in 1820, Graham’s is one of the most famous names in the Port trade and has long been synonymous with the greatest vintage Ports. The Symington family acquired the company from the Graham family in 1970, so today Graham's remains a wholly family-owned firm. The Symington family are trusted hands because they are the world’s leading producer of premium Port and the biggest vineyard owner in the Douro Valley – a UNESCO World Heritage Site of jaw-dropping beauty. The company is also B Corp Certified, which means they are also on it when it comes to the environment, sustainability, their people, their supply chain and giving back to the community.
