97 points, “This 2015 Yeringberg is a showpiece of great Bordeaux-esque style.” – James Suckling
Dive into this pool of cassis, red plums, cherries, rose petals, tomato leaf, tapenade, Christmas cake, pencil shavings, grated chocolate and earthiness; and remind yourself just how good an Australian red can be. Yeringberg’s Proprietary Red 2015 is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec from some of the oldest and lowest yielding vines in the Yarra Valley, made by one of the pioneers of the region.
Founded in 1863 by Baron Guillaume de Pury, this winery has been around for 150 years and passed through five generations, making it one of the oldest family-owned vineyards in Australia. Sandra de Pury makes the wines, her brother David manages the vines, and they do this under the watchful gaze of their parents Guill and Katherine. They make five different wines, but only make around 1,500 cases each year, so getting hold of them is extremely difficult. So don’t miss out on this opportunity.
The Langton’s Classification is the ‘form guide’ for Australian fine wine, rating wines on how they perform in the market over at least a decade. It is the who’s who of the country’s top producers. Yeringberg’s Cabernet blend receives an “Excellent” rating, placing it right up among the greats from Penfolds, Torbreck, Henschke, Noon, d’Arenberg, Katnook and more. As Australian wine critic extraordinaire James Halliday says: “Yarra Valley pioneers, the de Pury family are renowned for wines of finesse and elegance, that epitomise the finest the region can produce.”
