Taking its name from a small agricultural hamlet nestled in the picturesque hills near Siena the Castello di Ama winery was founded in the 1970s by a group of families passionate about this magical place. Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti are now at the helm of this revered estate that produces some of the most elegant sought-after and long-lived Chianti in the region.
The Montebuoni vineyard on the slop of the hill parallel to the Bellavista vineyard was bought and replanted by Castello di Ama in 1997. 2018 is the debut vintage of the Chianti Classico Riserva from this plot so this is a rare opportunity to taste a ‘first’ from such a prestigious producer. Sangiovese with a little splash of luscious Merlot are vinified using native yeasts and then matured in oak for 12 months. What emerges is fruit forward with notes of hedgerow blackberry raspberry blueberry and blackcurrants. So gorgeously drinkable we might just keep it all for ourselves.
