Wine that fights crime and corruption; we’re proud to introduce Centopassi.

Centopassi was formed by the merger of two Sicilian cooperatives and they organically cultivate land seized from the mafia creating lawful jobs providing access to benefits like healthcare and pensions and restoring farmland that has suffered years of neglect. This socially conscious and brave enterprise creates its wine from grapes grown in Belice Corleonese a high and rocky plateau south of Palermo. Their wines are brisk and vivid and every bottle sold helps to build a brighter a future and break the mafia’s stranglehold on the local area.

The winery describes the Portella della Ginestra vineyard as a ‘pile of stones’ at almost a kilometre above sea level. They hike up there to harvest the Nerello Mascalese and Nocera grapes. This is done not only to make their beautiful flagship red but also in memory of the victims of demonstration for better working conditions that took place nearby in 1947 which turned into a massacre at the hands of a local bandit and the mafia. The wine is as dense and complex as the region’s history pulsing with wild strawberry ripe plum black cherry and the oak it has been aged in for 18 months. Elegant and charming Pietre a Purtedda da Ginestra Rosso 2016 is one of the finest Sicilian wines we’ve come across for years especially considering its price. But be warned only 2 200 bottles are made each vintage so it's super rare.
