Chapel Down proudly presents a one-of-a-kind Vintage English Sparkling Wine to commemorate the Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023.
Chapel Down Coronation Edition 2016 has bubbles that dazzle like His Majesty King Charles III’s crown and burst with flavour fireworks of ripe apple, fresh red berries and toasted brioche. Rich and generous, it’s perfect for grand celebrations like ushering in the new Carolean era.
The team at Chapel Down have crafted this wine using Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier picked in 2016 from the finest parcels across the southeast of England. The Indian summer in this low-yielding year provided a limited crop of grapes with the perfect balance between sugar and acidity. The combination of those conditions and such a momentous occasion inspired Chapel Down’s Head Winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire, to pull out all the stops. The wine was matured on the lees (the spent yeast that gives quality sparkling wine its nutty, yeasty and bready flavours) for five and half years, which is almost twice as long as Vintage Champagne requires by law. Some reserve wines stored in barrels and tanks from vintages dating back to 2009 are used to add further complexity.
All profits from the sale of this wine will be donated to the Royal British Legion, a charity dedicated to supporting the Armed Forces community. Having received a Royal Charter from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1971, this is a cause close to the heart of all in the Royal Family.
