This simply has to be the ultimate Sloe Gin. Chase have taken sloe berries picked from the wild hedgerows of Herefordshire and mulberries which were introduced to this country by the Romans and macerated them in one of our favourite gins their own GB Gin. Now that would probably be enough for anyone but Chase have gone one step further by oak-ageing it red wine casks from the Rhône Valley (specifically Châteauneuf-du-Pape) for a year.
The result is sweet tangy and very very serious. Chase's oak-aged Sloe Gin with mulberries is a hedgerow that you can drag us through backwards forwards repeatedly we don’t care. It's like the fine wine of gin liqueurs. There’s juicy summer berries the unctuous stickiness of dates and prunes a foresty feel and finally a peppery punch possibly from the Shiraz previously held by the oak barrels. Our spirits buyer says that this is too good to mix and recommends sipping it alongside a cheeseboard. However if you must try topping with bitter lemon and garnishing with a sprig of rosemary.
